Nepal Scouts Successfully Hosted APR Scout Committee Meeting

Nepal Scouts achieved a significant milestone by hosting the Asia Pacific Regional Scout Committee (APRSC) meeting, chaired by Hon. Dale B. Corvera, Chairman of APR Scout Committee in the Hotel Dusit Princess of Kathmandu, Nepal from October 13 to 15, 2023. This gathering brought together 16 members of APRSC representing 10 countries namely Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Maldives, Bangladesh, India, and the host country, Nepal., continue collaboration, sharing progress, and discussing the way forward for Scouting in the Asia Pacific region. During the event, the Nepal Scouts hosted a joint meeting with the Asia Pacific Regional Scout Committee and Nepal Scouts Board. In the meeting, National Coordinator of Nepal Scouts Mr. Lok Bahadur Bhandari welcomed all the delegates in the country and also thanked APR Scout Committee for providing the opportunity to host such event by Nepal Scouts. Director of Nepal Scouts, Mr. Ram Prasad Bhattarai showcased the achievements and milestones, highlighting the progress made up to the point and key challenges and expectation of Nepal Scouts with APR Scout Committee. Chairman of The APR Scout Committee Hon. Dale B. Corvera highlighted the updates from AP RSC.  

A significant focus of the joint meeting was on strengthening collaboration between Nepal Scouts and the Asia Pacific Regional Scout Committee. Discussions were made about mutual support, expectations, and ways to enhance the impact of Scouting in the host county Nepal and the Asia Pacific Region.

In addition, the event also featured a first joint meeting with the Asia Pacific Regional Committee, the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), and the Asia Pacific Committee of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in presence of Hon. Dale B. Corvera, Chairperson AP Regional Scout Committee WOSM and Ms. Chempaka Emalin Binti Pahamin of Chairperson, AP Regional Committee WAGGGS. This meeting was fruitful in fostering mutual partnership and regional collaboration on uplifting quality non formal education to the youth of the region with shared vision between the organizations.

Both the Asia Pacific Regional Committee WOSM and WAGGGS held a meeting with the former Prime Minister of Nepal and former Patron of Nepal Scouts, the Right Honorable KP Sharma Oli.

In the meeting committee shared the update about Scouting in the region and also explore the potential collaboration opportunities.

Beyond the meeting sessions, participants had the opportunity to explore the rich cultural heritage of Nepal. A visit to the World Heritage Site Kathmandu Durbar Square provided a glimpse into the historical and architectural wonders of the city, offering a unique cultural experience.

The meeting also included a visit to the Tri-Padma Scout Troop/Crew at Tri-Padma Vidyashram Secondary School in Lalitpur, Nepal.

Participants observed troop activities related to scouts’ role during emergency and local cultural performances and interacted with local Scouts, gaining insights into the scouting activities and values maintained by Nepal Scouts.

The successful hosting of the Asia Pacific Regional Scout Committee meeting by Nepal Scouts demonstrates the commitment and dedication of Scouting in the Asia Pacific region. The event promoted international cooperation, showcased the progress made by Nepal Scouts, and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in proceeding the Scouting movement. With this note, the future of Scouting in the Asia Pacific region looks promising and inspiring.
