Capacity Enhancement Webinar Series

[:en]With the declaration of COVID 19 as a Pandemic, the group activities of Nepal Scouts have been halted for an uncertain time. In this situation, Nepal Scouts has been continuing its activities and programs through a virtual platform. In addition, Nepal Scouts has been taking leadership development and Capacity Intensification of National and Assistant National Leader Trainers into core consideration. Capable Leader Trainers are the most valuable assets as they hold the competency to produce competent Scout Masters who work in the grass-root level and implement Youth Programme to achieve vision and mission set by the organization. 

To address the circumstances and need of Nepal Scouts, Capacity Enhancement Webinar Series was successfully conducted from 7th Aug 2020 to 19th Sept 2020 every Friday (3:00 PM to 5:00 PM) and Saturday (5:00 PM to 7:00 PM) for 7 weeks with a total of 14 sessions. 

The main objective of the webinar series was to provide sessions on updated and contextual topics related to Scouting and Leadership Development. The specific objectives of the Programme were: 

  1. To provide an opportunity for leader trainers to share scouting knowledge through a virtual platforms.  
  1. To support in capacity enhancement of leader trainers by providing updated information on the scouting topics.  
  1. To upgrade the quality of upcoming training of Nepal Scouts 

In the sessions, valuable inputs were given by the resource person invited from WAGGGS, WOSM, Nepal Scouts and other related fields.  

The first day of the session was on 7th Aug. 2020 was administered by Mr. Bijendra Dhowju, Member, National Ad-Hoc Committee on the topic “Fundamentals of Scouting”. The first day of the session was successfully concluded with 71 participants. 

The second day of the session on 14th Aug. 2020 was administered by Mr. Ram Prasad Bhattrai, Director, Nepal Scouts on the topic “ Working with young People“. The reflection on the previous session was presented by Ms. Rukmini Shrestha, National Leader Trainer. The second day of the session was successfully concluded with 69 participants. 

The third day of the session on 15th Aug 2020 was administered by Ms. Maiya Twyanabasu, Member, AP regional committee, WAGGGS on the topic “Organizational structure and working mechanism of WAGGGS including Initiative of WAGGGS ”. The reflection on the previous session was presented by Ms. Laxmi Panta. The third day of the session was successfully concluded with 67 participants. 

 The fourth day of the session on 17th Aug 2020 was administered by Mr. S. Prassanna Shrivastava, Director, Organizational Development and MoP APR support Center, WOSM on topic “Organizational Structure and Working mechanism of WAGGGS including Initiatives of WAGGGS”. 

The reflection on the previous session was presented by Mr. Suraj Khanal, Assistant        Leader Trainer, Nepal Scout. The fourth day of the session was successfully concluded with 63 participants. 

The fifth day of the session on 22nd Aug 2020 was administered by Swami Anand Arhat on the topic “Stress Management”.  The reflection on the previous session was presented by Mr.Shambhu Raj Sharma, Assistant Leader Trainer. The fifth day of the session was successfully concluded with 69 participants.  

The sixth day of the session on 24th Aug 2020 was administered by Mr. Bijendra Dhwoju, Member, National Ad-Hoc Committee on the topic  Guidelines on Spiritual and Religious Development”The reflection on the previous session was presented by National Leader Trainer, Suchita Sainju. The sixth day of the session was successfully concluded with 67 participants.  

The seventh day of the session on 28th Aug 2020 was administered by Mr. Steve Tyas, WOSM Consultant, and Mel Reoch, WAGGGS Core Mission Lead Volunteer – Girl Experience on the topic  World Youth Programme Policy and Prepared to Learn, Prepared to Lead”The reflection on the previous session was presented by Assistant National Leader Trainer, Mr. Shyam PaudasiniThe seventh day of the session was successfully concluded with 67 participants. 

The eighth day of the session on 31st Aug 2020 was administered byMr. Devraj Ghimire, WOSM Consultant on the topic  Review Presentation on Existing Youth Programme of Nepal Scouts”.The reflection on the previous session was presented by National Leader Trainer, Mr. Shiva Kumar PoudyalThe eighth day of the session was successfully concluded with 59 participants. 

The ninth day of the session on 4th Sept 2020 was administered byMr.Paul Parkinson, WOSM Consultant, and Ms. Annina Kainu, WAGGGS Volunteer on the topic  World Adult in Scouting Policy and Leadership Development Framework”The reflection on the previous session was presented by Assistant National Leader Trainer, Mr. Rabindra BasukalaThe ninth day of the session was successfully concluded with 62 participants. 

The tenth day of the session on 5th Sept 2020 was administered by  Ms.Prerana Shakya, Global Programme Manager, WAGGGS and Dr. Ekbert Yong, WOSM Consultant on the topic “ Surf Smart and Safe from Harm”.  The reflection on the previous session was presented by  MsUma Subedi. The tenth day of the session was successfully concluded with 62 participants. 

The eleventh day of the session on 11th Sept 2020 was administered by Mr. Bishow Shrestha, Assistant Leader Trainer, Nepal Scouts on the topic “Training Scheme”. The reflection on the previous session was presented by Assistant National Leader Trainer, Mr. Bhuwan Charan Shrestha. The eleventh day of the session was successfully concluded with 62 participants. 

The twelfth day of the session on 12th Sept 2020 was administered by Ms.Megan Neuffer, Capacity Building Lead for Image and Visibility from WAGGGS on topic  Marketing/Promotion of Scouting”. The reflection on the previous session was presented by Assistant National Leader Trainer, Ms. Bimala Shrestha. The twelfth day of the session was successfully concluded with 58 participants. 

The thirteenth day of the session on 18th Sept 2020 was administered by  MrBijendra Dhowju, Member, National Ad-Hoc Committee on the topic “Quality Leadership Development in Scouting”. The reflection on the previous session was presented by Ms. Mabila Khadka. The thirteenth day of the session was successfully concluded with 54 participants. 

There was “Panel Presentation on Scouting Activities for New Normal” on the fourteenth day of the session on 19th Sept. 2020 was led by Ram Prasad Thapaliya (Secretary, MoYS), Dr. Tulashi Prasad Thapaliya (Director General, MoEST), Syd Castillo (Educational Methods, World Scouts Bureau Asia Pacific Support Centre) and Chelsea Elaine Teodoro, Core Mission Coordinator. The fourteenth day of the session was successfully concluded with 60 participants. 

The closing session of the programme was conducted on 20th Sept. 2020 in the presence of National Coordinator, Mr. Lok Bahadur Bhandari, and eminent guests from WAGGGS and WOSM. Virtual Certification of Participants and Resource Person, Sharing of Programme highlights, Keynote Speeches from Mr. JR. C Pangilinan, Regional Director, WSB, AP support Center and Ms. Katherine Ann Charcyos Puyo, Vice-Chairperson, AP Regional Committee, WAGGGS ware major activities of the programme. The programme was officially concluded with the Closing Remarks from Mr. Lok Bahadur Bhandari, National Coordinator.
